Yes, suffering and safety go hand in hand in the local church. It certainly is coupled together at Brackenhurst Baptist Church. And as church members, we should be grateful. At any given gathering of our church, there will be those in our midst who are suffering. Some suffer physically, some suffer emotionally, and, for those who “keep in Fast with the church when the church is called to fast and pray. Fifth, fast humbly. Fasting is a means of desiring something greater than food. It is a way to deny your bodily needs in pursuit of something more important. It is a way to say that there is more that I desire than what I have in this life THE HOLY GRAIL OF CHURCH LIFE. In the age in which we live, unity has become something of a holy grail of church life. Unity is good, of course. Jesus prayed that his church would experience the same kind of unity that was experienced within the Trinity before the ages began (John –23) Even with a fully regenerate membership, it is possible for a church to, at times, behave in ways that belie its profession: for the regenerate to behave in ways that are unregenerate, displaying the works of the flesh (Galatians –21).
