The whole point of the story is that Hugo was condemned from the start, the ONLY one who cannot accept this is Amicia (and the player because they went through so much in the first game and just want a happy ending). Every other characters keeps on saying that Hugo is better off kept contained

It made me feel like I was one of them at a certain point. The black death theme/atmosphere was carried out in such an immersive way. She is captain of her beloved ship, the Rascasse. When Sophia was young, she had a wealthy mother and a smuggler father. When her mother found out about Sophia's father's smuggler status, she sent her to a convent to "cleanse her of her sins" It's sad, but it was one of the most real endings the game could have, and it makes both Requiem and Innocence better (or at least more emotional) games in hindsight.
